Tetanus Antitoxin ( Veterinary ):
 


COMPOSITION:

Tetanus antitoxin for veterinary use is a preparation from native serum containing the specific immunoglobulins for neutralizing the tetanus toxin secreted by Clostridium tetani. This preparation is obtained from the serum of horses previously immunized with the tetanus toxoid then the tetanus toxin. The serum is standardized to contain 150 I.U. per ml.


 
 
 
 


INDICATION :

Used for prophylaxis and specific therapy of tetanus. Inoculated in all animals to confer passive immunity for 3 weeks and is used in large dose in treatment of the disease.

 
 
 
 


DIRECTION OF USE:


Prophylactic dosage:
Large animals 1500 – 3000 I.U. given subcutaneously.
Small animals 500 I.U. given subcutaneously.

Therapeutic dosage:
30.000 –100.000 I.U. given by three routes S/C, I/M and I/V for two or three days according to the case.
In idiopathic cases 100 I.U./Ib body weight are used and repeated daily till tetany disappear. High doses of antibiotics must be given in parallel.


 
 
 
 


PRECAUTIONS:
1) tetanus antitoxin should be stored in a dry place protected from light at temp. between 2 and 8 oC .
2) If it is used fro other animals than equedoe, it is advisable to apply sensitivity test to avoid prophylactic shock .
