African Horse Sickness Tissue Culture Polyvalent Vaccine ( AHS ) :
 


COMPOSITION :
African horse sicknes ( AHS ) vaccine is issued as a freeze dried material prepared from the nine strains (1-9) of horse sickness viruses. Each dose contains at least 104-7 TCID50 /ml.


  
 
 
 


PROPAGATION SYSTEM:
African green Monkey kidney cell line (VERO) and Baby hamster kidney (BHK-21).

  
 
 
 


INDICATIONS:
For protection of horses against AHS.

  
 
 
 


DOSAGE :
1- The lyophilized material should be dissolved in 40 ml sterile chilled physiological saline solution.
2- The dose (2ml) of reconstituted vaccine is injected subcutaneously in the lower third of the neck after shaving hair
and disinfecting the place.

  
 
 
 


VACCINATION PROGRAMME :
Unless otherwise prescribed by the authorities, animal should be vaccinated at 6 month of age with annual repeating.


  
 
 


REMARKS :
1- Reconstituted vaccine must be protected from sunlight, heat and kept on ice throughout the time of use.
2- The dissolved vaccine should be used within half hour from reconstitution.
3- Annual vaccination of animals during February, March, April is advisable to be sure that acquired immunity against the natural virulent strains is developed before the onset of insect multiplication season.
4- Vaccinated animals should be kept in complete rest for 3 weeks after vaccination.
5- Pregnant mares of more than 6 months pregnancy should not be vaccinated until at least 3 months after foaling.
6- It is forbidden to vaccinate pregnant race mares until the elapse of 3 months after foaling.
7- Foals from immune dams should not be vaccinated before seven months old, but foals from susceptible dams can be vaccinated from the 3rd month of their age.
8- Race foals either from immune or susceptible dams should not be vaccinated before 6 months old. The dose is 1/10 the normal dose and revaccinate after 6 months with an equal dose.
