Salmonella Pullorum Tube Antigen:

COMPOSITION:
It consists of standard strain of Salmonella Pullorum, in phenol saline solution.

INDICATION:
Used in testing native and foreign breeds for pullorum disease by tube agglutination test. Serum from mature chickens, turkeys, ducks and geese can be tested by this antigen.

Direction for use:
The antigen is diluted as recommended on the label by alkaline phenol saline (pH 8.2 – 8.5) just before performing the test. The diluted antigen is prepared fresh each day to minimize dissolution and lysis of cells.

READING OF THE TEST:
Agglutination titre of 1/40 or more will indicate salmonella pullorum infection, but if positive agglutination occurs at 1/20 only, it is considered suspicious and should be repeated after two weeks.

PRECAUTIONS:
- Freezing should be avoided.
- The bottle is shaken very well before use.
- The antigen is diluted as recommended on the label.
- Alkaline phenol saline (pH 8.2 – 8.5) is used to prevent the formation of confusing “cloudy” reactions.
