Summary

Detection of FMD virus from infected samples by fluorescent antibody technique using in comparison with two different conjugates which are anti-FMD serum conjugated with fluorescent isothiocyanate (anti-FMD FA conjugate) and staphylococcal protein A conjugated also with fluorescent isothiocyanate (SPA-FA conjugate).

The two conjugates were prepared and evaluated. The working end point dilution of the conjugates were 1/20 and 1/15 for anti- FMD FA conjugate and SPA-FA conjugate, respectively.

The results revealed that there is no difference between the two conjugates and it considered as closely similar. Also, it could be concluded that the use of SPA-FA conjugate is sensitive, cheap and non- species specific for detection of FMD virus when using direct and in direct FA techniques.
