Baby hamster kidney (BHK21 ) cell cultures were passaged 15 times using serum replacement, newbron and foetal calf sera. The confluent sheets of cell cultures were inoculated with FMD virus in multiplicity of infection 1:100.

The harvested virus was titrated after 24 hours and was estimated its antigenicity by complement fixation (CF) activity. The results revaled that the FMD virus, harvested from inoculated BHK cultures passaged by foetal calf serum was higher than that of serum replacement and newbron calf serum in virus and CF titration.

Also, there is no significant difference between the serum replacement and newbron calf serum when used for BHK cultures passages for FMD virus yield.
