Summary

Dot ELISA was used for the detection of antibodies against protease and polymerase genes (3CD) antigens in animals infected with foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV).

Antigen antibody reactions were detected with an antibovine serum labeled with hoseradish peroxidase. Using 4-chloro-1-naphthol as a substrate, positive reactions appeared as blue dots and the results were compared with those of solid phase ELISA and agar gel precipitation.

Dot ELISAappeared to have a potential for rapid and economical field test in the diagnosis of FMDin infected animals.
